The
Lingonberry is a delicately tart flavored
member of the cranberry family that grows wild in the mountainous regions
of Scandinavia, Russia, Canada and Alaska. In Norway they are called
tyttebaer, in Finland puolukka, and in Germany, preisel-beere. Whatever
the name, however, the berries are treasured for their unique flavor as well as the same
highly nutritional and medicinal values possessed by cranberries. The wild berries are harvested
in Scandinavia and processed commercially as jams, sauces and preserves. Lingonberry products make excellent accompaniments for pancakes, meat and fish
entrees, with baked goods and in beverages.

Lingonberries have just recently been introduced for commercial cultivation in the U.S. and the soil and climatic conditions in the Pacific Northwest are proving to be excellent for their growth and production. You can now have Lingonberry Jam and Syrup, in both Sugar and Sugar Free varieties, produced from berries grown at Friendship Farm in Rainier Oregon.

Blueberries, another popular Scandinavian fruit, are bold in taste and rich in medicinal anti-oxidants. Three varieties of blueberries, Duke, Blue Crop and Darrow, are grown at Friendship Farm and offered for sale on the local fresh market. The combination of these three full-flavored fresh berries create the unique fruit-full character of Friendship Farm Blueberry jams and syrups.
